THE COMMUNITY GARDENS
Across the road from the Cattail Marsh that is out behind the Lagoon, is Woburn's Community Gardens. (The access road is off of Lexington Street). Here you can rent a plot of land in the spring and grow anything you would like (except no perennial flowers or vegetables since it is plowed every spring). There are all kinds of crops both vegetable and flower grown here. Some of the more popular veggies are corn, squash and pumpkins as they take a lot of room and people often don't have that much space in their yards. The many flowers that are grown here are very attractive to bees and butterflies. Some people put up bird feeders and bring in large potted plants to decorate their spaces. Back a few years ago someone planted the giant Russian sunflowers and now they grow wild along with other cultivated sunflowers in various colors and heights. In the fall they attract many beautiful songbirds!
